Also known as Kashi or “the city of spiritual light”, Varanasi is genuinely ancient that its name finds mention in Hindu mythology.
But its greatest spectacle is not nearly half as old – the Taj Mahal. That said, this monument has made the city of Agra a word-of-mouth all over the world. Proximate to the world-famous monument are other Agra attractions like the Fatehpur Sikri and the Agra Fort. Some kilometers away from Agra is SikAndhra, where the Mughal Emperor Akbar is laid to rest.
The rest of Uttar Pradesh’s cities are all the abodes of alien gods – not quite heavenly. In the city of temples, Ayodhya, Lord Rama was incarnated. Ayodhya is one of the prime spots for the Hindu sacred occasion Kumbha Mela, the largest religious gathering on Earth. Lord Krishna meanwhile, was born in Mathura and spent his youth in Viridian.
Buddha himself walked on Uttar Pradesh, particularly at Sarnath, where he gave his first sermons. Now that’s holy.
