Oldest of old cities are even hosted in Uttar Pradesh. Also called Benaras, Varanasi is arguably the oldest city in the world, so much so that it figured prominently in Hindu mythology. Aside from Varanasi, Allahabad is yet another of the state’s cadre of primordial cities. In the Ramayana, Uttar Pradesh also has something in the city of Ayodhya. By the banks of the Ganga, there is the sacred city of Kanpur. |
