| High above the environs of the Himalayas the city of Nainital sits, waiting to arrest visitors with scintellescent visuals of the sky.
Nainital’s name is coined after the words "Naini" meaning “Eyes” and “Tal” meaning “Lake”. If truth be told, Nainital is a water world of sorts, bedizened with lakes more than any other. As such, the city is part of the oft-repeated designation “Lake District” of India
Of these lakes, the most reputed is Naini Lake. As far as Hindu myths go, Naini Lake is one of the emerald green eyes of Shiva's wife, Sati, who once threatened to destroy the world.
As a getaway from those apocalyptic innuendoes, visitors may check out the life-affirming Snow View, from where one can afford a view of Nanda Devi. Before Sikkim was absorbed in India, hence Mount Kanchenjunga, Naina Devi had been India's highest peak. |
