A Guide to Maps of India

Looking at a map of Tamil Nadu, one would see a state located at the southernmost tip of India, between the Bay of Bengal in the east and Indian Ocean in the south.

But it does not take a road map of Tamil Nadu, much less a discriminating tourist to corroborate the feral beauty of Tamil Nadu. Pristine beaches such as Marina Beach and Kanyakumari Beach, along with hill stations like Ooty are all here for the taking.

One striking place of interest once in Tamil Nadu is the town of Mamallapuram, formerly known as Mahabalipuram. Distinguished as the town of temples, sand and sea, Mamallapuram is renowned the world over for its exquisite Shore Temples, erected between 630 and 728 AD.

On the other hand, there’s the 2,500-year old city of Madurai, where one can eavesdrop Tamil language spoken in its most undiluted form.

Also known as Trichy, Tiruchirappalli has come into its own as a city. Still, Trichy is most famous for one thing – an 83-meter high rock structure. Throughout the world, this structure is renowned as one of the oldest, allegedly 3,800 years, in league with the rocks of Greenland.

Truth to tell, the rock formation predates even the Himalayas. Ucchi Pillayar Koil, a temple dedicated to Lord Vinayaka lies as its apex, certainly not one to cap a lovely trip to Tamiol Nadu.
