A Guide to Maps of India

Akin to a living museum, Rajasthan has its hands full with relics of bygone eras. Anywhere else, the most amazing architecture may not be as romantic. Such is the lure of Rajasthan.

Against the desolation of Rajasthan’s desert, unabashedly decadent palaces, majestic forts, intricately carved temples and inimitable mansions called havelis dot the horizon. They are the imposing legacies of the Rajputs, very clearly prolific builders.

When in Rajasthan, it is best to come up with a dependable tourist map of Rajasthan and begin looking right off the bat for the outstanding edifices.

Chittorgarh Fort is one, but it is not just any other fort in Rajasthan – it witnessed bloody sieges and visceral “jauhars”. Amber Fort also warrants a visit too.

Of Rajasthan’s palaces, one must not miss Amer Palace, Umaid Bhawan Palace and the grand City Palace of Jaipur. There is also the Hawa Mahal, from whose windows the shy royal ladies used to see the royal procession unseen behind the screens.

When it comes to havelis, Jaisalmer has the cuts above the rest. As for temples, only in Rajasthan could one find the second richest temple in the world, the Shrinathji. Muslims on the other hand have the sacred Dargah Sharif to themselves. At Jantar Mantar the precocity of Rajput astronomy comes into view.
