There are ample attractions: Jaisalmer Fort, Patwon-ki-haveli, Nathmalji-ki-haveli, Salim-Singh- ki-haveli, Tazia tower, Bar Bagh and Gadsisar Lake. But the curious among the travelers can only care about why on earth is the city of Jaisalmer in the state of Rajasthan is the erstwhile ‘Golden City of India’?
Sure, Jaisalmer is one of the most fascinating tourist destinations in Rajasthan. Proof: a map of Jaisalmer never stays on the shelf that long as travelers are constantly checking on in the array of sites that are yet to be visited – all are but showcase of the royal grandeur of the bygone era: magnificent forts, beautiful palaces, historic mansions (called havelis) and antiquated houses.
It’s awesome for being a 12th century structure, but Jaisalmer Fort is more impressive for its formidability – surrounded with 30 feet high sandstone wall with 99 bastions, and stunning location – high on Trikuta hill.
