Road trips across the heart of Punjab flaunt some of the best there is in India. The state’s lures are not few and far between, with Amritsar at the top of the pedestal.
Holiest of the holy to the Sikhs, the Golden Temple is located in Amritsar. It houses the Akal Takht, the topmost hierarchy of Sikhism.
Once Amritsar’s antiquities get too monotonous for comfort, one can always have a change of view at the very modern city of Chandigarh. Branded the “City of Today”, Chandigarh is hailed far and wide for its modern architecture and near flawless organization.
That said, the olden architecture of Punjab is impossible to skirt around. One might want to come to the Yadavendra Gardens, with its Mughal-style lawns, flowerbeds, water channels, fountains, and airy pavilions.
Meanwhile, Punjab is known for the city of Ludhiana. With its unrivalled production of hosiery and woolen products, Ludhiana stakes a claim to the Manchester of India. |
