Punjab Rail Map

A Guide to Maps of India

From every way one looks at it, Punjab is never short on breathtaking places alone. As it is, Punjab is a showcase of nature, so to speak. Its fields are gilded yellow with wheat, its horizons blue with mountains.

Stripped of its picturesque lands, Punjab is still stuffed to its finest fiber with spectacles ineffably unheard of elsewhere. In Amritsar, one gets to behold the Golden Temple, many a Sikh’s most revered place.

History may have been in on this inexplicable concentration of attractive spots. As archaeological excavations in places like Roop Nagar have corroborated, Punjab is eye-catching even in the distant past. In fact, the archaeological remains yielded here are that of the primordial Harappan civilization.

In all, the draws of Punjab are on earth and beneath it. A rail map of Punjab would also reveal great places such as the Govindgarh Fort and the Bathinda Fort.

As for palaces, there is never a dearth of it in Punjab. Before anything else catches one’s eyes, the Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Amritsar fixes one’s attention. It is laid in 84 acres worth of rare fauna and surrounded by a 14-foot high boundary wall. However, the best palace in Punjab was that of a former ruler of Kapurthala, but it is now a Sainik School.

While the Taj Mahal is not in Punjab, the whole countryside is decked with the vestiges of olden days, like the Aam Khas Bagh Sirhind and the Fatehgarh Sahib.
