Orissa Location Map

A Guide to Maps of India

If it were not for Orissa, the world would not be assaulted with a one-of-a-kind mélange of old world charms and natural bounties.

Where Lord Jagannath favors the land, Orissa could only be a fantastic getaway from the aesthetic pits of the planet. For the miserable and the world weary, it may be of help to know that a location map of Orissa might just offer a reprieve today.

Scores of temples fill the length and breadth of the state. Together they form the Golden Triangle circuit of Orissa, with Bhubaneswar alone taking as much as 7,000 temples at one point in history. Apt to be crossed in this itinerary is Konark’s great Sun Temple.

Aside from these antiquated edifices, Orissa is the place to be, if only for exotic critters like lions and white tigers. Above all, Orissa is the destination of millions of turtles that come to Gahirmatha twice each year to lay eggs.

Profuse fauna could only be foregone in a state of paradise-like ecosystems. Asia even has its largest brackish lake here, called the Chilika Lake. As for waterfalls, Orissa is not the type to hide, if the precipitous cascades at Bagra, Duduma, and Harishankar are any indication.

If traveling gets too monotonous, one can always stop, sit back and watch the countless fairs and festivals of Orissa come to life. The one with the most pageantry is the Rathayatra held at Puri. Rich as it also is in folk dances, Orissa sired the Odissi dance.
