| A new district was created in India on the very first day of April of 1993. Ever since, no one has stopped fawning over its natural and cultural bounties. Its name is Angul, and it is here to stay.
Whether from a satellite or otherwise, a map of Angul would show that Angul has a 22-km long narrow gorge, one of the mightiest in India. Running its length is the noble Mahanadi River. Known as Satakosia, the gorge teems with various crocodiles.
Strategically located beside the Satakosia Gorge is the small village called Tikarpada. One may find the Gharial Crocodile Sanctuary here.
Any visit of Angul also has to reward one with the spectacle of the boulders at Talcher. For centuries, geologists have been left wondering with the uniqueness of these boulders.
In Talcher too, one may find big industries like the Talcher Thermal Power Station, Heavy Water Plant and the Talcher Collieries (MCL). Talcher used to be a capital of the erstwhile state of the same name.
The presence of such entities underscores the progressiveness of the district. Truth to tell, Angul remits the highest return of revenue to the government due to its vast coalmines. |
