An oversight of a state as Nagaland is highly unlikely, not least when maps of Nagaland – or elsewhere for that matter – never fail to emphasize the state’s arresting beauty. If ever a tourist map of Nagaland is in one’s hand, there is no stopping a brush with heaven.
Blessed is the one who happens upon Dzokou Valley on a sunshiny July or a breezy September day. High above the earth, at an altitude of 2400 meters, the entire valley is a tear-jerking carpet of wild flowers. Lilies, aconitums, and enphobias – they all stand tall and wafting here.
In the capital alone, Kohima, there are many heavenly spots to take in, such as the ever-solemn War Cemetery and the intellectually stimulating State Museum. Just as invigorating is Kohima Village, one of the largest in Asia, is an admixture of the past and present.
Another enchanted place to wander about in Kohima is Dzulekie, a veritably idyllic tourist spot. For a merry trek, Japfu Peak is not “far” away as it does rise 3,048 meters above sea level. |
