Meghalaya Road Map

A Guide to Maps of India

Any road map of Meghalaya would show that the said state is bounded on the north and east by the state of Assam and on the south and west by the country of Bangladesh.

The demographics of Meghalaya revolve around three tribal denominations, namely the Khasis, the Jaintias and the Garos. The Khasis hold dominion in the center of the state, the Jaintias in the east and Garos in the west. While the Khasis and Jaintias have the Austro-Monkhmer race for its DNA base, the Garos are of Tibeto-Burman lineage.

All three tribes are matriarchal in makeup, in that lineage and ancestral property pass down from mother to daughter. To these people, celebrating the festivals known as Shad Suk Mynsiem, Behdeinkhlam, Wangala and Pomblang Nongkrem is always imperative, for the right reasons.

They live in harmony in a state known for a rich variety of flora and fauna. For instance, Meghalaya owns 300 of the 17,000 species of orchids in the world.  That is as richly colorful as it gets for Meghalaya.

Plus, Meghalaya has the longest and deepest caves there are in India. Depths of these caves can reach over 50 meters. At most, their lengths can go on for more than one kilometer. Figure that one but never look down.
