More or less, each district has tourist sites for one and all. At any given time, the town Cherrapunjee, tucked south of the capital Shillong, kills the competition, in that it ranks one of the most popular tourist spots in India’s northeast.
Waterfalls bedizen many parts of the state, with Elephant Falls, Shadthum Falls, Weinia Falls, Bishop Falls, Nohkalikai Falls, Langshiang Falls and Sweet Falls counted as the most celebrated.
Some extra clothes will take you farther because as maps of Meghalaya would show the state is somehow saturated with lakes, both manmade and natural. Umiam Lake, or Bara Pani in local parlance, is one major tourism attraction.
Otherwise, there is enough sun to dry and while away time, in several parks and other green reprieves, such as Thangkharang Park, Eco-park, Botanical Garden and Lady Hydari Park. |
