Maharashtra Ratnagiri Map

A Guide to Maps of India

By the Arabian Sea in Maharashtra, there is a charming town called Ratnagiri. As any map of Ratnagiri would show, it has a long coastline just perfect for beach bums.

Sun worshippers may take their pick from among many mesmerizing locations, such as Mandvi and Bhatye beaches.

A beautiful stretch of beach perfect for lingering can also be found at Mirya Bay, the location of Bhagwati Port.

In India, Ratnagiri also holds up as that seaside town from where the delicious Haapus or Alfonso golden mangoes are harvested.

More than anything, a trip to Ratnagiri should be consummated with a stop at the all-revered Ratnagiri Fort. Shaped like a horseshoe, Ratnagiri Fort was built during the Bahamani rule between 1350 AD and 1500 AD.

With a length of 1300 meters and width of 1000 meters, see where the fort touches the sea on three sides, while its fourth side sits on dry land.  You have to capture that one.

Part of the cliff has collapsed to reveal a cave, on one of the sides leaning towards the sea. A lighthouse still stands at one of the fort's bastions, called the Siddha Buruj.  And then revere, because here n the fort’s premises lies the temple of the Goddess Bhagwati.

And taste some more antiquity in the Palace of Theba, where the British Government detained the King of Burma – or so we know now.
