Long rides and all, nobody is complaining. Form the rail, adventure begins.
Call it a splendid vista. In both area and population, Maharashtra is the third among the largest states in India. Maharashtra may be demarcated into two relief parts, the Deccan plateau and the Konkan coast along the Arabian Sea.
Looking at a map of Maharashtra, the state forms a huge irregular triangle. Its base is on India’s west coast, flanking the Arabian Sea. Stretching all of 720 kilometers, this strip of coast, the Konkan, is dotted with paddy fields and coconut forests. The countryside is a weary traveler’s delight.
Geologically, Maharashtra is characterized as a realm of lava beds, which manifest as black and massive girdles on the face of the Sahyadri. Any adventurous photographer would attest that these sites are picture-perfect. |
