Maharashtra Amravati Map

A Guide to Maps of India

Or so a map of Amravati says that ‘theirs’ is a city in Maharashtra, situated right in the heart of the northern border of the state, within the Tapi basin with some of its parts extending to the valley of Wardha.

If location is any indication, some truly enchanting times are waiting. And why not indeed -- due to its association with Lord Krishna, Amravati stands for "abode of immortals."  Its attractions are no less immortal, standing the test of time to have a place among India’s saturated antiquities.

For the most part, Amravati’s places of interest are temples, as in the Ambadevi Temple, set right at the center of the city. Supposedly, Rukmini came to pray at this temple, catching the eyes of Shri Krishna, who then abducted and married her.  Nice to know, to be there would be even nicer, magical.

And fascinations for temples, should we say, Amravati boasts of the Satidham Temple, located near Rallies Plot in the city.  Housed here are beautiful idols of Lord Krishna-Radha, Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, Lord Ganesh, Lord Shiva and Rani Satiji.  Shri Bhakti Dham Temple is yet another attractive temple, devoted to Lord Krishna and Radha.

Some distance from Dasturnagar Square rises Chatri Talao, a small reservoir built in 1888.  Likewise, another body of water was artificially built, called Wadali Talao, located near Chandur Railway Road.  This superbly serene is equipped with a small garden and a zoo.
