A bit of vital statistics will lead us there: Second to India’s largest state, Madhya Pradesh is bounded by Rajasthan, Maharastra, Chattisgarh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The state used to be much larger, prior to the separation of Chattisgarh from the state on November 1, 2000.

And indeed we arrive to Madhya Pradesh, designated the "Heart of India".
While a map of Madhya Pradesh would put it only as the center of the country, Madhya Pradesh is also at the crossroads of Indian history. This shall put any tourist for one truly discovery-filled trip.
Hence, UNESCO has declared not one, or two but three World Heritage Sites in Madhya Pradesh: Khajuraho Group of Monuments, the Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi and the Marble Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka. What more is there to see?
Visiting those three magnificent sites and an infinite litany of other interesting spots is a monumental task -- but one that can be made easier by a good tourist map of Madhya Pradesh. When in Madhya Pradesh, it becomes clear you are setting foot in the land of gods and goddesses. |
The feel of the place could have it: Brahma and Vishnu were born in Chitrakoot while Rama sought solace in the Mahesh.
But then modern mortals in us must not hesitate to savor Madhya Pradesh’s godsend natural splendor either. Treading upon its earth are exotic beasts like the barasingha, spotted deer, wild boar and gaur.
We like to say: all is here in the heart.
