Kerala Thiruvananthapuram Map

A Guide to Maps of India

As one ascends a hilltop at the southern tip of the state of Kerala, Kerala’s capital and one of India’s unforgettable cities comes to view – Thiruvananthapuram.

Fondly called Trivandrum, Thiruvananthapuram, for all one knows, is simply a transit point on their way to Kovalam, the internationally renowned beach resort a few miles to the south.

However, Thiruvananthapuram has more and more come into its own as a destination unto itself.

Toting a map of Thiruvananthapuram, no one is going to waste their time with a few strolls in this laidback city, decked with narrow alleyways, quaint gabled houses and green, lovely parks.

The Fort area is deemed the most enthralling part of Trivandrum.  Around here, one may come across the Shri Padmanabhaswamy temple, which is close to non-worshippers, and Puttan Malika Palace.

Formerly the seat of the Travancore rajas, the Puttan Malika Palace has been partly turned into a museum and displays a collection of heirlooms and artifacts.

Here, hundreds of wooden pillars carved into the likenesses of braying forms of rearing horses prop up the eaves, beneath sloping tiled roofs.

We cannot take for granted these pieces of elegant Keralan architecture. At the end of a particularly sweltering tour, a side trip to the hill station of Ponmudi is much welcome. Alternatively, there is Padmanabhapuram, the home of a magnificent palace.
