A Guide to Maps of India

Who would love at thought of standing at the “land atop the hills”…Malappuram is a stunning territory of beaches, backwaters, hills and valleys.

Very well laid in the map of Malappuram: The city is situated southeast of Kozhikode; the Nilgiri hills bounds it the east; the Arabian Sea to the west, and Thrissur and Palakkad districts to the south.

Set your sights because Malappuram is at the confluence of three magnificent rivers, namely the Chaliyar, the Kadalundi and the Bharathapuzha. At Padinharekara beach, one can behold the mouth of two of the rivers.

As for its share of Kerala’s backwaters, Malappuram falls back on Biyyam Kayal, a lush waterway complete with a water sports facility.

The history is just as verdant, Malappuram’s offering of Ayurveda is centered on Kottakkal, with its renowned private institution set up in 1900.

More or less, Malappuram is just a microcosm of a larger land where great poets, writers, and leaders, be they political or religious, are born.

Anybody would be glad to know that in a community called Tirur just some distance from the city, Thunchath Ezuthachan, the father of the Malayalam language, was born.

Great admiration never stops as the festivals of great merrymaking in Malappuram are Onam and Thrissur Pooram.

The former marks Kerala's New Year and harvest season, while the latter is the annual temple festival.
