We romanced some 120 kilometers of road from Kottayam to discover Idukki, one of India’s loveliest hill resorts.
According to a map of Idukki, this town in Kerala is the provenance of the gracious River Pamba.
Designated after the Malayalam word “Idukki” meaning “a narrow gorge”', the hill station is a very soothing getaway from the blazing scorch of India’s lowlands.
And so we are right about getting some refreshing time.
Before anything, sightseeing around Idukki means paying a visit to Asia's biggest arched dam, the Idukki Dam – a massive structure erected across the noble Periyar River, in the mighty ravine between the Kuravan and Kurathi Hills. |
