In ancient times, Karnataka was called Karunadu, meaning “elevated land”. But the course of Karnataka's history and culture goes back to prehistoric times, deep into the Stone Age.
From a rail map of Karnataka, or any map of Karnataka for that matter, one may discern it to be one of the largest Indian states.
Much of Karnataka’s expanse belongs to rabid history buffs. If anything, there is the Vijayanagara Empire, which held court over Karnataka until 1565. After its fall, the empire gave way to the lineage of Raja Wodeyar.
Long afterwards, Hyder Ali and his valiant son Tipu Sultan became notable figures in Karnataka, all the while under the leverage of the British.
In hindsight, a marvelous history paved way for the emergence of the booming state Karnataka is in today. |
