Karnataka Bijapur Map

On occasion, a map of Bijapur might seemingly resort to hyperbole and brand the said city as the "City of Victory”.

It isn’t the least bluffing – Bijapur used to be known as Vijayapura, the City of Victory.

Built during the reign of the Chalukyan Dynasty of Kalyani, Bijapur has a bevy of architectural marvels as in mosques, tombs and palaces, owing to the political upheavals here.

Surely, Bijapur is interchangeable by now for the tomb of Mohammed Adil Shah, the seventh ruler of Adilshahi dynasty.

Famously known as the Gol Gumbaz, this is a gigantic mausoleum 20 years in the making.

A Guide to Maps of India

Grandiosity never made it this far than the Gol Gumbaz. Spanning the horizons of Bijapur, the Gol Gumbaz is tremendously massive, so much so that its central dome is second only in size to that of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

Amazingly, the dome stands without pillars. Irretrievably this is a feat of engineering to be remembered forever, if only for the acoustics of this dome.

Apparently this dome was built in a way that the mere sound of crumpling a paper can be echoed eleven-fold.

Superlative as this structure is, Bijapur still has a lot of antiquated spectacles to showcase.

Ibrahim Rauza is just one, along with the immense Bara Kamaan, the intended mausoleum of Ali Adil Shah.
