A Guide to Maps of India

In the grand tradition of India’s royal towns, Bidar offers to one and all a place steeped in history.

A map of Bidar leads visitors to an erstwhile kingdom, whose vestiges are still there for all to wonder and wander about.

With its lasting ruins and invincible monuments, Bidar is easily seen as the former capital of the Bahamani and Barid Shahi dynasties. The Bahamani sovereignty was behind the construction of the eye-catching Bidar Fort here.

Within it is the Rangin Mahal, easily the royal residence what with its carved wooden pillars, Persian couplets and exquisite mother-of-pearl inlay work. These rulers are laid to rest at the Bahmani Tombs at Ashtur.

In the heart of Bidar, visitors cannot miss the 71-foot Chaubara. Less lofty but equally significant is the Madrasa of Mahamud Gawan, an age-old university.

Aside from these structures, Bidar is also a confluence point for religious feats of engineering.

Proximate to the heart of town is the Nanak Jhira, the largest Sikh temple in Karnataka.

It is of repute for the Gurudwara, constructed in memory of Guru Nanak. Fresh crystal clear spring water seemingly gushes past here from nowhere.

Ranking one of the largest in India, Solah Kamba Masjid is the oldest Muslim building in Bidar.
