Jammu Kashmir Road Map

Jammu and Kashmir represent the northernmost frontiers of India. From a road map of Jammu and Kashmir, one would easily see the state to share borders with Pakistan, Afghanistan and China. In fact, Jammu and Kashmir is largely comprised of the western Himalayan Mountains, which tower mightily 6,000 meters above.

As such, the rocks here trace their origins to the oldest epochs of the earth's geological history. In any case, the state is ubiquitous with spectacular lakes, glaciers, plateaus, and rivers, like the Indus, Chenab, Jhelum and Ravi.

With that, the state experiences three distinct climates. In the deserts of Ladakh for instance, semi-arctic coldness reigns in a region otherwise tropical by nature.

As altitudes go lower, it either gets temperate – as in Kashmir valley – or sub-tropical, as in Jammu.

Veering away from the surly landscapes of Ladakh, the beholder who happens upon Kashmir Valley does so at the elusive Paradise on Earth.

Here forests of giant Chinar trees grow profuse while dense deodars, pine and fir swathe the mountainsides.

In between this blessed green are snow leopards, musk deer, wolves, bears and leopards.

Even in the wastelands of Ladakh, creatures like the yak, Himalayan Ibex, Tibetan antelope, snow leopard, wild ass, red bear and gazelle all find hospitality.
