temples
Orissa is known for its temples and Bhubhaneshwar is known as the
temple city of East India. The largest temple in Bhubhaneshwar temple,
the Lingaraj temple is 1000 years old. With dynasties that have changes
over the years, temples have been built which are very beautiful.
The Sun temple at
Konark is an awe inspiring temple and was built in the 13th century by
King Narasimha Deva and is also known as the Black Pagoda. The temple
has been conceived and designed as a chariot with 24 wheels, having a
set of spokes and elaborate carvings.
Jagannath temple at
Puri is a magnificent temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath (Krishna),
Subhadhra (sister of Krishna) and Balabhadhra (brother of Krishna).
There are many festival actually 24 festivals that are held during the
year. Elaborate rituals mark the worship of the deities here everyday.

people come here everyday to visit the temple. The vast temple complex
has about 120 temples and is 400,000 square feet in area.

Wildlife
in Orissa
The wildlife and the fauna in Orissa is rich and diverse. The state has
many National park and sanctuaries. Chilika (Nalaban ) wildlife
sanctuary is the largest brackish water wetland in the country and is
the place where many of the migratory birds touch down for the
wintering sites. There are more than 225 species of fish and many
endangered animals that are found here.
