Significance
of Temples
The state of
Himachal Pradesh has lots of temples for the purpose of both worship
and also tourism. So both tourists and also tourists can visit these
temples. While pilgrims come to worship, the tourists remain fascinated
by the beauty, art and the architecture of the temples as most of these
temples were built during the ancient times. They also wonder the
engineering knowledge of the ancient Indians. The Bajreshwari Temple is
an ancient temple outside the town of Kangra built in honor of
Bajreshwari Devi. The temple was ransacked by northern temples. It was
also destroyed in 1905 due to an earthquake but was rebuilt in the year
1920. It is now an important pilgrimage spot.
Temples
There are many
temples in Himachal Pradesh. One among them is the ancient temple
called Baijnath Temple. This temple is identical to Shikara style and
is a perfect blend of architecture and sculpture. This temple is
devoted to Lord Shiva. Another famous temple is Chamunda Devi Temple.
This bestows with beautiful views of the Lahla, Pathiar, Baner and Khud
forest and mountains. Jwalamukhi temple is a famous place of
pilgrimage. A flame burns constantly from a hollow rock in this sanctum
and is believed to be the expression of the goddess Devi.
Lakshminarayan
temple is the most ancient temple and other temples in the Chamba
region are dedicated to Champavati, Ram Chandra, Chamunda, Brijeshwari,
Hari Rai, Bansigopal and Narsingh. The ManiMahesh temple is an abode of
Lord Shiva. This temple is also in the shikhara style and an image of
Lakshmi Devi stands near by. An annual yatra is conducted starting from
Chamba Lakshminarayan Temple and take a holy dip in the Bharmaur Lake
and proceed. Besides all these temples, the Lomesh Rishi Temple is
magnificent as Lord Shiva temple is in a piece of floating island.
Similarly, Guru Govind Singh’s Grurdwara and a monastery of Buddha is a
place revered by tourists.
