Colorful
history
India is a nation
that has a long and colorful history. Daman and Diu is a union
territory in India that enjoys the same type of history. Daman and Diu
was a part of Goa and was also under the rule of the Chowda Rajputs and
was one of their strongholds. The Chowda Rajputs ruled from the 8th
century AD to the 13th century AD and were overthrown by the Waghalas.
The Waghalas were later ousted by the Muslims in 1330. The Muslims
maintained their rule for a spa of two hundred years and the Portuguese
conquered Goa.
Reign
and Sovereignty
Goa was under the
Portuguese control for 451 years in succession. Albuquerque ingrained
the Portuguese rule in the Island of Tiswadi during 1510. His
descendants expanded their rule in spite of continuous and increasing
opposition to the reign of aliens. The Portuguese were constantly
challenged by several Indian seamen and admirals yet they proved their
superiority. Bahadur Shah gave the permission to the Portuguese to
build a fort and also maintain a garrison. This was because he
established a defensive coalition with the Portuguese due to an
invasion by Humayun, the Mughal Emperor. This deep rooted the
Portuguese rule.
Accomplishment
as solitude
The later rulers of
Gujarat tried their level best to exterminate the Portuguese rule in
India but were unsuccessful. The Portuguese confirmed the cessation of
Diu by the Treaty of 1543. By the middle of the 16th century, the
Portuguese extended their rule to Salcete, Bardez, north Bombay and
also the neighboring areas. The Portuguese were plundered by a small
battalion of Arabs of Muscat who made off with the booty. The next
notable defeat of the Portuguese was before the midnight of December
16th, 1961. This was the twilight of the Portuguese imperialism in
India. Daman and Diu were separated from Goa in 1987 as Goa became a
separate state. Daman and Diu became union territories.
