Chandigarh is the common capital to the states of Haryana and Punjab. It is a beautiful and well-planned city. It is designed by the French architect Mont Corbusier.

It is located at the foot of the Himalayas. It has been a Union territory of India since 1966. The capital of Chandigarh is Chandigarh itself.

Punjab and Haryana are its neighboring states. This place enjoys a very high literacy rate. The literacy rate if Chandigarh is 81.76% It has only one district. It has 24 villages and 1 town.

Punjabi, Hindi and English are the chief languages spoken here. Major religions practiced here are Sikhism and Hinduism. It s main town is Chandigarh itself.

Hosiery, antibiotics, cycle, electrical meters, home appliances, electronic equipment are some of the industries in Chandigarh. There are 15 large and medium scale industrial units in Chandigarh, out of which two are public sector undertakings. More than 3000 units are registered under small scale sector and they offer employment to about 30,000 persons.

This union territory has 1,400 hectares of cultivable land. Wheat, maize and paddy are the major crops. The forest covers 27 % of the area.

There are 2 universities in Chandigarh. Lodhi and Baisakhi are the main festivals of Chandigarh. The level of literacy is increasing now. The state has along way to go; still it is not at all in all bad shape. The two universities at the moment are serving the purpose, but the state most definitely needs more colleges and universities. No place can develop without being the centre of education. It is a nice place and can develop a lot if the government starts paying attention towards such features. The place has a bright future then.

It is a pleasure traveling to this place because of its well-maintained roads. Chandigarh does not have any ancient monuments since it literally a new city. Its gardens, lakes and roads often form the topic for discussion. A distinct feature of this city is its ecology. Growing trees and plants and construction of man-made structures go hand in hand.

The city of Chandigarh is also famous for its culinary tradition, and some of its best food is found in street side dhabas: flaky kulchas, chole bature, succulent tandoori chicken and saffron-flavored kulfis that melt in the mouth. The traditional dishes are nicely cooked and have a local flavor. They are good to taste and people who visit this place enjoy the cuisine a lot.
