Solan takes its name after its patron goddess Shoolini. Places of interest in Solan include the Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry at Nauni.
There is a three hundred-year old fort in this town too. It traces its origin to an era when the Ghurkas still ruled the place.
Although now in ruins, the fort is flocked because it provides sweeping panoramas from its high altitude.
When in Solan, visitors must make it a point to pay a visit to the Shoolini Mata temple. Other religious places to be when in Solan are the Jatoli Shiv temple and the Yungdrung Tibetan Monastery.
Solan has become synonymous with mushrooms, in that it produces them by the tons. With that, it has now become the Mushroom City of India. |
