Spiti alone is known as “world within a world” and the “palace where the gods live”.
Still, the state of Lahaul and Spiti has their share of verdant fields, as in Keylong.
Some distance away from Keylong stands the village of Gondla. It has for its icon the eight-storied opulence named the Gondla Castle. Built in the 17th century, the edifice used to house the thakur of Gondla.
Monasteries come by the heaps here, solemn as its expanse is for the most part. Guru Ghantal, Kardang, and Shashur monasteries all promise to enlighten the worldly.
All these are part of Lahaul valley. On the other hand, Spiti valley is where to find the second longest glacier on earth, the Bara-Sigri. |
