Himachal Pradesh Lahaul Spiti Map

A Guide to Maps of India

Far away from the trite world, in the most remote corners of Himachal Pradesh, are the valleys of Lahaul and Spiti.

While the rest of India has its hands full trying to be green and rife with blooms, Lahaul and Spiti are idyllic in their own, barren way.  Surely this land cannot be of this planet.  Granted, the glaciers of Lahaul are otherworldly, not in league with others of its kind.

Spiti alone is known as “world within a world” and the “palace where the gods live”.

Still, the state of Lahaul and Spiti has their share of verdant fields, as in Keylong.

Some distance away from Keylong stands the village of Gondla. It has for its icon the eight-storied opulence named the Gondla Castle.  Built in the 17th century, the edifice used to house the thakur of Gondla.

Monasteries come by the heaps here, solemn as its expanse is for the most part. Guru Ghantal, Kardang, and Shashur monasteries all promise to enlighten the worldly.

All these are part of Lahaul valley. On the other hand, Spiti valley is where to find the second longest glacier on earth, the Bara-Sigri.

It may be beheld at its most beautiful from the 5,000 meter-high Kunzum Pass. Even without a map of Lahaul and Spiti, this is veritably a blissful world of its own.
