A Guide to Maps of India

Nothing on India holds up against the most beautiful mountain realms as Himachal Pradesh, the one getaway in summer to flee from the heat.

Coming to the table here is the visitor who, armed with a district map of Himachal Pradesh, wants high mountains and undulating valleys at once. Whether it is the bursting color of Kullu or the beautiful desolation of Lahaul and Spiti, there has to be one for the visitor in Himachal Pradesh.

Summer retreats begin in the capital Shimla, once the British colony’s premier British hill station.

When it comes to beautiful colonial-era churches though, a trip to the hill station of Dalhousie is in order.

Scenic wonders are also rife in Chamba, the ancient Pahari capital.

If only for the Dalai Lama dwelling here, Dharamshala represents the spiritual aspect of Himachal Pradesh.

It is the one place in the world where prayer wheels and flags are the order of the day, to the ends of universal salvation.

In addition, there’s the fabulous Homeymoon resort of Manali, nestled among snow-clad towering peaks.

From winter wonderland, Himachal Pradesh shifts gears and holds out the fabled Valley of Gods, Kullu. Resting by the banks of the limpid river Beas, Kullu Valley, also known as the Silver Valley, is the verdant antithesis of the forbidding heights west of the Greater Himalayas.

Conversely, Lahaul and Spiti are too remote as it is not of this earth. At their best, they are the landscape of the Moon come down on earth. Still, Spiti is known as the valley of Monasteries.
