Warping time may not be as good in Haryana as in other Indian states, but Haryana is irretrievably set apart with a history that is over 5,000 years in the making. If anything, Haryana is the “Land of Plenty” mentioned in the ancient Mahabharata.
Deep beneath the very soil of Haryana then is antiquity at its most globally seminal. Until the past has been unearthed completely, Haryana could only tease one with the land’s superficial history.
Granted, Haryana holds its own, what with its tourist delights. Any road map of Haryana shows a rolling expanse of natural bounty for one and all.
In fact, Haryana has a bevy of tourist complexes, part of one of the most successful tourist programs known to India.
Morni Hills alone is popular for its spectacular vistas and prodigious opportunities for trekking and adventure sports. |
Not that Haryana is a pushover in terms of monumental glory. In truth, Haryana has yielded vestiges of the primordial city called Harappa, near Agroha.
Likewise, the town of Kurukshetra is associated with Vedic Culture. As the Mahabharata says, the town is said to bear the very footprints of Lord Krishna incarnate.
But there is no one to raise the bar of history as Rakhigarhi. With its ongoing excavations, Rakhigarhi is about to rewrite the 5,000-year old history of India. Archaeological findings from Rakhigarhi tip the area off as the largest Indus Civilization site after Mohenjodaro.
