For a state with few natural and historical attractions, Haryana is veritably one of the most popular with tourists the world over.

Such a thriving tourism industry could only be the result of a frenetic and ingenious tourism campaign like no other in India.
In the one state with little to bring to the table, Haryana in fact initiated the idea of holiday tourism in India.
According to a district map of Haryana, the state is festooned with a growing number of tourist complexes, all named after birds native to the area. Besides, Haryana surrounds India’s main gateway, the capital Delhi.
Easily the most visited spot in Haryana is the manmade Badkhal Lake.
Flanked by the Aravali hills, the lake is where to go for loads of water sports opportunities like canoeing, kayaking or just a simple boat ride. Luxury yachts are even available here. |
Those interested of spending the night at this placid location can do so at the numerous small cottages overlooking the lake. If Badkhal Lake gets stale, Karna is just around the corner, among a plethora of lake retreats. Then there are the Yadavindra Gardens at Pinjore, where in the center of it all is a 17th century building.
Hindus in particular take to Kurukshetra, a pilgrimage spot associated with the Mahabharata. Of the hundreds of sacred locations here, the ones to go for are the Brahma Sarovar, Sannihit Sarovar, Gurudwara Sadbhiti, Thaneswar Tirtha, and Rajghat.
