A Guide to Maps of India

Holding a special portion of India, the state of Gujarat is renowned all over the country for its industries.

But its modernizations only serve to belie its age, as Gujarat is, in its heart of hearts, an old state.

Based on a tourist map of Gujarat, the state is demarcated into three picturesque regions.

Collectively, Gujarat is famous as the haven of the endangered Asiatic lions, in Sasan Gir National Park, and millennia-old archaeological places in Lothal and Dholavira.  Emperor Ashoka’s rock edicts can also be found here, near Junagarh.

Gujarat’s largest city is Ahmedabad. It could very well be the Manchester of the East what with its unparalleled number of textile mills.

Established in 1411 by Ahmed Shah, Ahmedabad is where to find the most exemplary Indo-Saracenic architectural masterpieces.

Of these, the Jamma Masjid always takes a second look.

One of the most beautiful mosques in the world, the Jamma Masjid is built in excellent workmanship, with ideally proportioned domes and columns.

Meanwhile, in the Calico Museum of Textiles, one should find out why Ahmedabad is one of the world's premier textile centers.

Gratifying one’s self with Gujarat is yet to come, not until one comes to the insular paradise known as Kachchh.  A world of its own, Kachchh is isolated from the rest of Gujarat by the Rann deserts.

Temples here are also more than the ordinary, such as the Dwarkadhish Temple. Somnath Temple also beckons, reputed historically for the shore temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
