A Guide to Maps of India

Thanks to the great Arabian Sea nearby, it has provided a mild climate for Surat, season after season, all year through.  Surat is also on the banks of river Tapi, so explains the constant cool breeze.

But come October and March bring some real good time for the eager visitors of Surat.  The weather is at its nicest.

The resorts -- such as Hajira, a holiday home beach resort fringed by feathery 'Casurina' trees, and beaches – such as Tithal with superb cottage accommodations, are fully-booked for family fun.

After a good wade in the waters, visitors should try Surat’s famous textile market and scout the nearby bazaars and bargain alleys to grab some of the famous exquisite zaris, fine silks and intricate brocades sometimes woven with gold and silver threads like the Tanchoi, Gajee and Kinkhab styles.

And since Surat was once an important diamond-cutting center, one may chance upon some diamond pieces left and hustled for sale – nil, but who knows? For a breather, one may want to be a history buff for a day and get a chunk of Surat’s glorious history.

The Old Fort, said to have been built by Mohammad Tughlak in the 14th century, looms. Don’t leave Surat without a basketful of spices. Back home, the whiff and aroma of curry will leave you remembering Surat.
