A Guide to Maps of India

To know Rajkot is to know Saurashtra's cultural heritage, more specifically with an obligatory visit to the Watson Museums at Jubilee Gardens.  Truly awesome, tourists can’t get enough of the grand 19th century marble statue of Queen Victoria, as well as other stunning portraits and photographs of Royal Princes of Saurashtra.

Bandhani Sarees, mirror-work, patch work, bead work and silk embroidery are everywhere but in the town of Rajkot – where they do real nice.

And where the crafts are good and famous, the little town attractions are not far behind.  Before the stroll takes us farther, the Kaba Gandhino Delo, also known as Mahatma Gandhi's Home, is a first, must-stop.

Dams and dikes may not be that fascinating but not until we drive some eight kilometers away from the town proper where massive Aji Dam is nothing but breathtaking.

An hour drive beckons the dusty but bustling village of Wankaner.  The village is a favorite excursion site and home to the striking Wankaner Palace, one of the Raf palaces that has been transformed into a heritage hotel.

Roll the map of Rajkot and keep for posterity.  After the Wankaner excursion, it’s back to the town where the famous jewelry market awaits.  Like all interesting trips, a fine souvenir or two shall keep any remembrance of Rajkot.
