Gujarat Porbandar Map

A Guide to Maps of India

We have to catch the Hindus perform a ritual to commemorate and reenact the once remarkable fortification of this town – and then we shall know that Porbandar used to have high rampart walls, bastions and five gates.  Add to that, the port of Porbandar has vestiges of a thriving maritime trade.

These are some of things to ponder about Porbandar.  And pondering cannot suffice our curiosity.  We just have to be there.

And what have we got in Pordanbar today? A map of Porbandar is handy, yes but not that a necessity as tourists are invited to experience of Porbandar on foot, if only for not missing the streetscape.

Perhaps start in the middle of Porbandar town where Rana Sartanji built Darbargadh, a fortified palace with massive wooden doors and magnificent courtyards.

Rambling around, the scenery is seemingly ordinary, but on a much closer, second stare, the city architecture of Porbandar is waiting to be relished: stone buildings with ashlar masonry and intricate carving and houses with eclectic designs shown in series of windows and carved gateways.

Wonder! Because what lies ahead, on Marine Drive – in a picturesque vista – a little-town with skyline outlined with temples and beautiful public edifices overlooking the sea.  Porbandar, after all, ranks as one the best coastal heritage towns of Gujarat.
