Bihar Vaishali Map

A Guide to Maps of India

The city is known as one of Buddha's favorite resort -- Vaishali is fine with that.  Making no qualms about it, the Buddha legacy is nevertheless palpable here as well because Vaishali holds the distinction as the grounds where Lord Buddha preached his last sermon.

But then the proud people of Vaishali can poke at one history buff’s eye them being recognized as one of world's first republics, the Lichchavi state. The legends were here.  Vaishali is the birthplace of Mahavira, one of the apostles.

But in your map of Vaishali today, the panorama is rural community with sprawling, abundant paddy fields.  Along the countryside drive, there are interesting sites, all steeped in legend.

The Ashoka Pillar at Kolhua is a single piece Bhimsen-ki-Lathi (stick) built in red sandstone with a height of 18.3 meters.

You do not miss looking up because there is a life size lion carved on top seemingly watching the world pass by.

The Raja Vishali Ka Garh is ancient parliament house once assembly venue to some 7,700 representatives. Only what remains is massive debris, a reminder of an illustrious political past.

The best time to visit Vaishali is October to March, but staying some more till middle of April is encouraged in time for Vaishali Mahotsava -- a festival to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Jain Tirthankar, Lord Mahavir.
