A Guide to Maps of India

How’s once one of the world's greatest universities – founded in the 5th century BC, and an important Buddhist center sound to you? This is ancient India’s longest running university, as well.

Nalanda is all down to sad ruins, only famous.  In the map of Nalanda, the ancient ruins is spread over an area of 14 hectares of land and archaeological digs – now known as The Nalanda University Archaelogical Complex, situated near Patna, the capital city of Bihar.

We like that you go quick check the place because the archaeological experts suggest that a large part of the University is still unexcavated.

Not that some loot is ready for the taking, but to actually stand on one such revered grounds -- populated by over 2,000 teachers and 10,000 students from all over the world including the Chinese scholar and traveler Hiuen Tsang -- can be an awesome experience.

Nalanda is not for the sentimental.  There is a feeling of pity if the news comes to you that the Afghans attacked and burnt down this great institution in the 12th century.

But there are festivals to make us glad.  In Surajpur Baragaon lake with its temple of Surya, the Sun God, is a pilgrim destination and venue for Chhath Puja or sun worship, held twice a year in April to May, the “Vaishakha” and the “Kartika” every October to November.
