A Guide to Maps of India

Any passionate tourist -- by that we mean those who are on the prowl for the beauty and uniqueness, if not the rareness of cultures – will find Assam a ‘to-die-for’ destination.

You see, the people of Assam – called Assamese, are a mixture of Mongolian-Tibetan, Aryan, and Burman ethnic origins.

Tourists never fail to bring home some Eri, Muga and Pat silk products, which are tangible aspects of the distinct tribal culture of the state.  Assamese women producing fine silk and cotton cloths is a reflection of a beautiful weaving tradition that is still being honored to this day.

Assam is also littered with spinners, potters, sculptors, goldsmiths, and various artisans of ivory, wood, bamboo, and cane.

A tourist map of Assam may point to these interesting cultural heritage destinations.

Oh but the festivals are another colorful reflection of rich Assam culture, most important among the celebrations are the three very vibrant Bihu festivals -- Bohag Bihu (New Year), Rangali Bihu and Magh Bihu (Harvest Festival).

Hop we go to the merriment of singing, dancing, feast and bonfires because there is no restraint to caste, creed, and religious affinity here.

And if the fun wears off for tired souls, the hilly regions with lovely tea gardens are nearby, welcoming and healing.
