Assam Sibsagar Map

A Guide to Maps of India

In the archaeological remains, palaces, temples, burial grounds, monuments of the Ahoms, sprawling artificial lakes -- the evidences of a grand royal past are very much here, and overwhelmingly how.

Cap that with Shivdol, the tallest Shiv temple in the world.  Sibsagar is an ancient town with a magnificent, mysterious past -- now revealed.

Where then Ahom Kings once ruled Assam for 600 long years, the old capital and present-day Sibsagar holds many testaments of the sovereigns that were.

Historical remains are now being preserved as national protected monuments.  Lucky for any keen tourist “to follow the footprints,” – as he would like to call his exploration of Sibsagar.

Resembling the pyramids of Egypt and built of stones and bricks are the ruins of Charaideo.

There is a whiff an eerie trace as numerous vaults -- called maidams, of the kings and members of the royal family lie in the secret nooks.

In the map of Sibsagar, 16 kilometer south towards Assam Trunk Road leads to Gaurisagar.  There waiting is the 150-acre complex of spring fed tanks, which is literally a waterbed of history.

Three temples dedicated to Devi, Shiva and Vishnu stand on its banks, reflecting divinity and evoking a pure enchanting vision.
