Kurnool is a village kind of city but not quite sleepy for comfort.

A Guide to Maps of India

It has nooks devoted to forts, tombs and temples – all should take one culture avid tourist to take a closer look – because the architecture in Kurnool, those in eminence or otherwise left in ruins, have distinctive worth written on them.

Standing in ruins upon the hills was once a strong hold of the Vijayanagar Empire, the fort of Adoni.

Down on the banks of the Tungabhadra river lies a star-shaped Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, known as the Shirdi of the south.

A map of Kurnool may not show it, but here lies in this interesting town a classic example of Islamic architecture, the Jama Masjid. Meanwhile, not many may fancy about tombs, but here in Kurnool lies one of Abdul Wahad

Within the quaint city, there is no lack of fascinating attractions such as Birla Mandir, Koda Reddy and Buruz.

A trip 80 kilometers from Kurnool reveals one of the most ancient and sacred places in South India, the Mallikarjuna Swamy temple, proudly sitting on the Rishabgiri Hills.

It can get humid in Kurnool, but there is a whiff of nippy air in an ancient gateway, in the village of Madhavaram. Visitors familiar with the gateway of India, in Bombay will be stunned to notice a striking semblance.
